Voter list unchanged after no objections filed
The Election Commission of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Tuesday announced the final voter list comprising 184 councillors for the upcoming board of directors’ elections, scheduled for June 7, with no changes made to the draft list.
According to the election schedule, hearings on objections to the draft voter list were set for Tuesday, with the final list scheduled to be published later the same day.
Chief Election Commissioner Ahsanul Karim, Senior Advocate of the Bangladesh Supreme Court, said the list remained unchanged as no appeals or objections were submitted against the draft.
“Objections could have been heard today [Tuesday]. If someone’s name was removed and they filed an objection, it would have been considered. Since no one did, it is assumed that no one has any objections. So it was finalised based on the draft,” Ahsanul told The Daily Star.
He also expressed satisfaction with the election atmosphere so far.
“I haven't seen any trouble so far,” he added.
Nomination forms will be distributed from Wednesday through Thursday, while submissions will be accepted on Thursday and Friday.
The scrutiny of nomination papers and publication of the provisional list of candidates will take place on May 23.
Objections against candidates and related hearings are scheduled for May 24, while withdrawal of candidature and the announcement of the final list of candidates will be made on May 25.
