Three jerseys sold at Tk 10.65 lakh

Star Online Report

Two jerseys belonging to former Bangladesh national football team captain Monem Munna and one belonging to former FIFA referee Tayeb Hasan fetched Tk 10.65 lakh at an auction set up by Auction 4 Action, a charitable organization that plans to use the money in the fight against coronavirus.

Tayeb's jersey sold for Tk 5.55 lakh, with Satkhira Chamber of Commerce president Nasim Faruk Khan the winning bidder. Carnival Internet bought Munna's national team jersey for Tk 3 lakh.

Munna's famous number 2 jersey, which he donned for Abahani, fetched Tk 2.1 lakh. HSBC deputy CEO Mahbub Ur Rahman bought the jersey outside of the auction, which lasted nearly one-and-half hours with former national footballers Sheikh Mohammad Aslam, Kaiser Hamid, Satyajit Das Rupu, referee Tayeb Hasan and Munna's wife Shurovi Monem in attendance.

Auction 4 Action had before uploaded a short clip on Munna's career on Facebook, arguably the best defender in the history of Bangladesh. The last time Munna wore the historic jersey was when Bangladesh won its first international trophy in 1989, beating a South Korean side to clinch the President's Gold Cup title.

Tayeb was wearing the jersey he auctioned while officiating the 2013 SAFF Championship final between India and Afghanistan. The base price of the jerseys were set at Tk 2 lakh each.
