Argentina return to training ahead of Switzerland clash

Star Sports Desk

Argentina returned to the training ground on Thursday with renewed confidence after their dramatic comeback victory over Egypt in the Round of 16, as Lionel Scaloni's side shifted focus to Sunday's FIFA World Cup 2026 quarterfinal against Switzerland [7am, Bangladesh Time]. Defender Cristian "Cuti" Romero, who scored Argentina's opening goal with a towering header against Egypt, trained without issue after experiencing calf discomfort late in the previous match. The concern was later confirmed to be nothing more than cramp, leaving the 28-year-old available for the last-eight clash.

The session was largely dedicated to recovery for players who featured heavily against Egypt, with starters undergoing gym work and regenerative exercises, while the remaining squad members took part in field drills. With no fresh injury concerns, Scaloni is expected to retain much of the starting XI that completed the comeback, with Friday's and Saturday's sessions set to fine-tune preparations before the encounter at the Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
