The Beauty of Diversity

Showcasing the diversity of Bangladesh in terms of ethnicity and language, the morning of August 9 at the premises of the National Language Monument in the capital turned lively and colourful. It was a celebration of the essence of the United Nations-declared International Day of the World's Indigenous People. A multiplicity of songs, dances and drama performances brought forth the history of the indigenous communities of Bangladesh --- from the north, south, east and west. It was, fundamentally, giving the indigenous people a voice to raise their demands and speak of their expectations. At the same time, it was extending the hands of friendship to Bengalis, through remaining true to this year's theme --- "Bridging the gap: implementing the rights of indigenous peoples". The programme was arranged by Bangladesh Adivasi Forum.
