The Spirit of Sacrifice

The Spirit of Sacrifice

EID-UL-AZHA, the second biggest religious festival of the Muslim community, will be celebrated across the country on October 6, with due religious fervour and the spirit of sacrifice.
On this day, Muslims sacrifice animals and share the meat with their relatives, neighbours and the poor. The ritual commemorates the attempt by Hazrat Ibrahim to give up his dearest son Hazrat Ismail in sacrifice in deference to the wishes of Almighty Allah. Ahead of the festival, traders from different parts of the country throng the cattle markets in the capital to sell animals at high prices. Thousands of city dwellers have already left the capital to share the joy of Eid with families and friends, notwithstanding the difficulties in their way and scarcity of tickets.
And yet the happiness associated with Eid remains, long after the celebrations are over.
