The Village of Twins

Kodhini, a town in Kerala in India, with a population of only 2000 villagers has around 350 twins! The town has become quite popular for this reason, given the statistic that globally, twins comprise of just six of every 1000 live births. Compared to that, in Kodinhi, twins make up a staggering total of 42 of 1000 live births! The story goes that the trend started some 60-70 years backs, but doctors can't ascertain the real reason behind this strange phenomenon. In the last five years alone up to 60 pairs of twins have been born, with the rate of twins increasing year-on-year. Doctors presume this marvel might be a result of what the villagers eat or is the work of an unknown hereditary factor at work. Interestingly, people in the subcontinent are told have the lowest acknowledged incidences of twinning in the world at around four per thousand.
