Mohammedan to host mega get-together for 90th anniversary
Mohammedan Sporting Club has decided to organise a mega reunion in the coming days to mark the club’s 90th anniversary, with celebrated former foreign and local players, current athletes and all registered club members expected to attend.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will be invited as the chief guest, although the time and venue of the programme are yet to be finalised.
“The board meeting has decided to hold a mega get-together programme to mark the club’s 90th anniversary, where our former foreign and local players, current athletes and all club members are expected to participate,” MSC president Barkatullah Bulu told reporters after the first board meeting of the newly elected committee today.
“We will invite Prime Minister Tarique Rahman as the chief guest,” Bulu said, adding that the date and venue would be finalised after receiving confirmation from the prime minister.
The Black and Whites last arranged such a grand reunion in 2009, bringing together former local and foreign players alongside club members.
Describing the current board of directors as the strongest in the club’s history, Bulu also said Mohammedan SC were planning to build a strong football team for the upcoming season under the leadership of football committee chairman and industrialist Mostafa Kamal.
“The meeting also decided to form Mohammedan fans’ clubs across the country like European clubs, with separate fans’ committees in every district,” Bulu said.
“We will also form a strong committee for the proper utilisation of the club land in Motijheel in a bid to generate the club’s own revenue,” said the lawmaker, while thanking former minister Mirza Abbas for allowing Mohammedan SC to register the club’s Motijheel land for a token registration fee of only Tk 1 lakh.
