When Happiness is All

When Happiness is All

At this time of the year, it is the cheerful countenances of farmers that greet the eye. Good cheer abounds as they happily get down to the business of bringing home their harvest from the fields where Boro rice has been grown.  Boro, it cannot but be recalled, typifies the biggest of the three rice growing seasons in Bangladesh. Boro rice contributes over 55 percent of the country's yearly staple output to the economy. These images come from Ashulia, Savar area. They see show farmers carrying loads of ripe paddy to courtyards, threshing and winnowing rice for their own consumption and taking the surplus to markets for sale.
