Airin Sultana A smile with a thousand words

Valobasha Zindabad (VZ) was your first release
First time I saw myself on the big screen I was gob smacked for words; I cannot express how I felt at that very moment. It was beyond my wildest dream; I never thought that I would end up becoming an actress. What was also surprising was the response from the audience; everyone really appreciated the movie and had wonderful things to say. The recognition and the kind words from the fans made me happier; I would like to thank Debashish Da for all of it.
Your chemistry with Arifin Shuvoo
Shuvoo bhai and I both started from modeling, we had immense fun and enjoyed each other's company off screen. He would tease me and rag me throughout the whole shoot; he made the whole shooting process very easy and fun. I think that transpired on-screen.
Tell us about your upcoming projects

“Sei tumi” is a movie produced by Gaziur Rahman; it's a movie based around the 60-70s time period, the setting of the film is on the rural regions of Bangladesh and I play a village girl. The movie has already been completed and we are going through the post production works.
The other project is “Cheleti Abol Tabol Meyeti Pagol Pagol” directed by Saif Chandan, it’s a modern day movie set on today's time frame with today’s issues.
Kayes Arju is the lead co-actor on both of these films.
Beyond that I have nothing on paper but I am going through a script at the moment and if everything works out I will have signed another film by the end of this month. As I haven't signed it yet I am not at liberty to disclose any further information regarding this.
How do you want to be perceive
I want my audiences to see me in a new characters each time, I don't want to repeat my characters or do conventional roles. I want to keep my roles fresh and exciting. I want to remain in the audience's memory as a character; I want them to recognise me from this movie as someone else and the other movie as someone completely different.
How is acting different from modeling
Modeling is a completely different medium from acting. In modeling I had to be conscious of my expression and my posture only, now I have to concentrate on my whole movement. I have to remember dialogues; I have to deliver expressions relating with the scenes, my facial expressions are more important than before. I have to dance and perform intricate motions. I am more alert about myself and became very conscious of my surrounding. In my modeling career I mostly worked on ramp or photo session so the most I needed to be concerned with was my facial expression was if I looked good or not. Now it's a new ball game.
I struggled with camera angles but the crew was very helpful and they would help me out whenever I got tangled.
Arifin Shuvoo is a good dancer, was it hard dancing with him
Well… I wouldn't put it in those exact words. I have seen a lot of movies with dance sequence so I was aware of the ideology behind the sequence; the expressions required to pull of such intricate maneuver. Shuvoo bhai is such an amazing dancer; it's going to be tough for anyone to match his rhythm. He would often tell me that if it wasn't for him I would have been an okay dancer, that with anyone else I wouldn't have these issues. Yet, in the end somehow we managed to pull it off, all the credit goes to our dance director Habib bhai for making me able to perform such lovely dance sequence.
Fans response about the movie
I went to many cinema halls, sat down with audiences and saw the film. It was a whole new experience for me to see myself on the big screen, generally the audience liked my work, they told me I looked lively, they were interested to hear about my upcoming projects and weather I had previously done any work. They were able to directly communicate with us, it felt great to have been appreciated so much by the audience. I was a little reluctant to join the industry as I already had a stable modeling career, we see so many artists coming over, doing a film but later switching back to where they came from. I too was worried about it happing to me and it was a risk I took to become an actor but hopefully it looks like it paid off.
Any negative comments from the audience

Certainly, people told me that I could act in a different manner and my dancing needs improvements. I always look forward for the negative feedbacks, these are your real well-wisher, they want your best hence they criticise you. I appreciate their comments over others, they give me room to improve and I oblige.
VZ is rumored to have been a copy of a Tamil movie called Bani
The story of the movie is not under my control, the writer of the movie Abdulla Johir Babu is ultimately responsible for it. My work as an actor is to deliver a convincing role and portray the character to my best abilities. I follow the instructions of the director and act accordingly to his wishes.
As this is my first movie I don't want to get into a debate over the matter, upon my signing I wasn't aware of the fact, it was only after the release that I came to know about the truth. People told me that the ending of the movie is similar to another movie.
I cannot actually comment on the decision or the reasons behind the makers of VZ for selecting to remake/copy the movie Bani, you would have to ask them.
But I wasn't aware of the fact before the release of the movie.
So you will be more careful from now on
What I want to say is that I concentrate more on the character, the story and the team behind the production. I have not seen all the movies out there, so I can't ensure that the script will not be similar to another movie, that's impossible to do. But I have learned my lesson and I will be more selective and careful from now on. What matters to me the most is the team; sometimes they are so incredible that the story may not hold such a high priority. If a movie is presented in an honest manner and made with dedication I feel there is nothing wrong in it. The Bangla cinema industry is so small and it's such a difficult industry to survive financially.
The seniors before me have worked hard to build it to where it is now. I had no clue of the hardship entailed within this industry; I now realize the enormous effort and hard work put in by everyone affiliated in producing a movie. To keep our industry going (survive) we have to support it with undying dedication, even if a movie is copied or anything else for that matter; if it's made in a decent manner and the production house have modestly promoted and produced the movie then everyone should actually appreciate this fact over the negative aspects. It's incredible to think that beyond all the setbacks we are actually producing something good.
