Queenie's ventures into fine art world

Nasima Khanam Queenie is a passionate artist, curator and art organiser. In 2011 she undertook a unique initiative with the launching of Queenies Art, an endeavour to promote art and young artists in Bangladesh and has organised several group art exhibition and workshops. She was the curator of a recently held group painting exhibition titled “Sublime Beauty of Lands and Rivers” at La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD). The exhibition was the outcome of a three-day art camp titled “Banglar Mati, Banglar Jol,” held last year at Bishwo Shahitto Kendro, Dhaka. Sponsored by Queenies Art, noted artist Nasima Khanam Queenie organised the art camp.

She completed her BFA from the Department of Oriental Art, University of Dhaka and did her MFA from the University of Development Alternative. She completed a course in basic drawing from the School of Visual Art, New York, USA under eminent artist Professor John Foote.

She has to her credit six solo art exhibitions held from 1991 to 2014, as well as numerous group art exhibitions from 1979 to 2016. The spectrum of her involvement includes Young Artist Exhibition, National Art Exhibition, Asian Art Biennale, and exhibitions sponsored and organised by many local galleries and organisations -- UNDP, GTZ, SIDA, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Bangladesh National Museum and Alliance Française de Dhaka.

A notable exposition of the artist was the slide show exhibition on her artworks at Hawthorne School, in Madison, Wisconsin, USA.

She has several awards to her credit such as the Class Best Award in Oriental Painting in 1984, the grand award in a nationwide art competition on the theme “Right to Health,” organised by Ministry of Health, GTZ and SIDA. She was  conferred the honourable mention awards by Shadhinata Sangsad and Patua Quamrul Hassan Award by Bangladesh Shilpo O Sahitya Saangsad for her contributions to fine art in Bangladesh.
