Bangladeshi vessel tilts during loading at Kolkata port

A Bangladeshi flagged vessel tilted at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata while containers were being loaded this morning.

The vessel, MV Marine Trust One, was supposed to carry containers from Kolkata to Chattogram, said Habibur Rahman, manager of the vessel's Bangladeshi local agent Mango Line Limited.

A few loaded containers fell from the vessel when it tilted at a jetty of Netaji Subhash Dock of the port around 10:00 am, he said.

Rahman suspected that the vessel might have lost balance and tilted due to mishandling in loading containers.

He, however, could not confirm how many containers fell off from the vessel.

The port authority managed to bring back the vessel in a balanced position with the help of tug boats and was trying to recover the missing containers, he said.
