Bangladesh Bank hosts Bangla QR awareness session in Habiganj

Bangladesh Bank organised a stakeholder engagement session in Habiganj to accelerate the implementation of Bangla QR and promote interoperable digital payments as part of the country’s journey towards a Cashless Bangladesh.

BRAC Bank acted as the lead bank to organise the interactive session with guidance from Bangladesh Bank, according to a press release.

Held at the Habiganj Town Hall Auditorium on July 29, the event brought together officials from Bangladesh Bank, government representatives, bankers, merchants, entrepreneurs, educators, and media professionals to discuss the role of Bangla QR in expanding secure, seamless, and inclusive digital payments across Bangladesh.

The session was attended by Bangladesh Bank Sylhet Office Executive Director Khaled Ahmed as chief guest.

Bangladesh Bank Sylhet Office Additional Director Mohammad Shafiqul Islam and Deputy Commissioner’s Office Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Al Nadarun Bin Akon attended as special guests.

BRAC Bank Sylhet Region Regional Head Rezaur Rahman presided over the programme and BRAC Bank Retail Banking, Merchant Acquiring, e-Commerce Senior Manager Raihanul Kabir delivered a keynote presentation.

Bangladesh Bank officials highlighted that the national Bangla QR standard enables seamless, interoperable payments for customers and merchants, driving the transition toward a cashless economy. Speakers encouraged businesses to adopt this technology to reduce cash dependency and enhance financial inclusion.

The discussion also highlighted that wider adoption of Bangla QR will reduce dependence on cash, simplify payment acceptance for merchants, enhance transaction transparency, improve business record-keeping, and strengthen financial inclusion, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises.

A key highlight of the programme was the distribution of Bangla QR standees and stickers among local entrepreneurs by the chief guest, encouraging merchants to adopt and actively use digital payment solutions.

Participants noted Bangladesh Bank’s continued commitment to expanding the country’s digital payment ecosystem.

BRAC Bank reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Bangladesh Bank’s vision by expanding Bangla QR acceptance, onboarding more merchants, raising public awareness, and driving higher digital payment usage.
