NDUB crowned champions of 1st National Maritime Moot Court Competition

The Department of Law, Notre Dame University Bangladesh (NDUB) has emerged as the undisputed champion of the BMU–BSIL 1st National Maritime Moot Court Competition 2026, the first-ever national moot court competition dedicated exclusively to maritime law.

The competition was jointly organised by the Department of Maritime Law and Policy, Faculty of Maritime Governance and Policy, Bangladesh Maritime University (BMU) and the Bangladesh Society of International Law (BSIL), held from August 21 to 22, 2026, at the Bangladesh Maritime University Campus. BSIL served as sponsor and collaborating partner, providing academic, intellectual, and institutional support throughout the initiative.

A total of 42 teams from 33 universities across Bangladesh took part in the competition. The final round was adjudicated by a distinguished panel. Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi, Judge of the High Court Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh, presided over the bench, joined by A E M Ismail Hossain, Senior District and Sessions Judge and Director of Administration at the Judicial Administration Training Institute, and Dr Masrur Salekin, District and Sessions Judge. The occasion was further graced by Barrister Aneeq R Haque, Additional Attorney General, as the special guest, and by the Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Maritime University, Rear Admiral Dr Khandakar Akhter Hossain, NBP, NUP, ndc, psc, PhD.

NDUB’s team consisted of oralists Maharun Islam Payel and Nusrat Jahan Toha, and researcher Raiyan Shikder. Team coach Sanjida Haider Suha provided the necessary guidance. The team also secured a remarkable fifth place in the memorial round.

The runner-up position was claimed by the University of Rajshahi.
