BIWTC fleet to start special Eid operation September 1
The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) will start a 10-day special operation of seven passenger ships on September 21, which will run between Dhaka and five districts on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
The special service, apart from the regular trips, will continue till September 30, said Azmal Hossain, deputy general manager (commercial/passenger), BIWTC, Barisal.
According to officials, the vessels can carry an average of 700 people each.
The seven vessels PS Mahsud, PS Ostrich, PS Lepcha, PS Turn, MV Modhumoti, MV Bangalee, and MV Shela will make trips to Chandpur, Barisal, Jhalakathi, Pirojpur and Bagerhat.
Gopal Majumdar, BIWTC's station manager in Barisal, said the fares would remain as in the normal times.
On the 161km Dhaka-Barisal route, one first class cabin seat will cost Tk 1,050, a second class cabin seat Tk 630, and every deck seat Tk 170, he said.
COASTAL DISTRICTS
Apart from the seven vessels, sea trucks will run between five coastal districts--Barisal, Bhola, Laxmipur, Noakhali, and Chittagong.
They will travel mainly short distances and stop at 11 points including Maju Chowdhurir Hat, Monpura, Shashiganj, Ilisha, Charchenga, Boyarchar, Hatiya, Kumira and Guptachhara.
Moreover, three coastal ships MV Monirul Huq, MV Abdul Matin, and MV Boro Awlia of BIWTC will operate from Chittagong under regular and Eid special services to different destinations in Hatiya and Sandwip from September 21 to 30.
