Govt shuffles key posts at missions

The government has decided to bring changes in key posts at some missions abroad.

The foreign ministry sources said Secretary (Bilateral) to the ministry Mizanur Rahman would replace Kamrul Ahsan as the high commissioner in Ottawa, Canada and the latter would return to the ministry.

Moreover, Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Masud Bin Momen will replace Dr AK Abdul Momen as the permanent representative in the United Nations.

Dr Momen's tenure was extended for the fourth time on August 19 for the upcoming UN General Assembly and will expire on October 30.

Consul General in Los Angeles, USA Sultana Laila Hossain will take charge as the Bangladesh ambassador to Morocco while the ambassador there will take charge as ambassador to the recently opened mission in Ethiopia.

Director General (Legal Affairs) at the foreign ministry Priyatosh Saha will replace Sultana Laila and DG (External Publicity Wing) S Bodiruzzaman will join as the consul general in Dubai.

The government has also reportedly chosen Rabab Fatima as the new ambassador to Japan but it could not be confirmed.

Meanwhile, the government has already finalised changes at missions in London, Rome, Brussels and Qatar.

The ministry sources said more changes are on the cards and some will come into effect by December.
