Shafiqul Islam takes charge
Md Shafiqul Islam, the newly-appointed commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), took charge today as the successor of outgoing commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia.
The public security division of the Home Ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard last month.
Before assuming office as the DMP chief, he served as the chief of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police since May 16.
He obtained BSc (honours) degree from Bangladesh Agricultural University in Mymensingh in 1986. He joined Bangladesh Civil Service (Police) as Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1989.
Shafiqul served as the assistant inspector general (AIG) in Khagrachhari, superintendent of police (SP) of Syedpur Railway Police, Narayanganj, Patuakhali, Sunamganj and Cumilla.
He also served as the additional commissioner and commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police. He was also appointed as the DIG of Chattogram and Dhaka Range.
He was promoted to the rank of Addl IG in September 2017 and served as the Addl IG HRM and Anti-Terrorism Unit. He was transferred as the chief of CID on May 19.
