Man to die for killing

A Mymensingh court yesterday sentenced a man to death and his brother to life imprisonment for killing a farmer in Phulbaria upazila of the district in 2005.

The death penalty awardee is Azizul Haque while lifer Dulal Miah. They are sons of Ayub Ali Bepari of Chaitaipar village. 

The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each. In default, they are to suffer another one year in jail.

According to the prosecution, there was a longstanding conflict between the two siblings and farmer Abdul Hakim, 60, of the village over a land in the area.

On May 14 in 2005, they killed Hakim following an altercation over the land.

The following day, victim's younger brother Jalal Uddin filed a case with Phulbaria Police Station against Azizul and Dulal.

After investigation, police pressed a charge sheet against the two siblings.
After examining witnesses and evidence, Mohammad Johirul Kabir, judge of 4th Additional District and Sessions Judge Court, found them

guilty and pronounced the verdict.
