Probe body formed in Jamalpur

A three-member probe body, headed by Additional Police Superintendent of the district Md Shariful Haque, was formed to investigate death of arrestee Hashem Ali under police custody in Sarishabari upazila of the district on Monday.

The probe body has been asked to submit its report within three days, said Superintendent of Police Nizam Uddin.

Hashem, 35, son of late Jinnat Ali of Tariapara under Sarishabari municipality was accused in a murder case filed with Sarishabari Police Station in connection with his wife's killing. He was arrested on Sunday from his cousin's house in the capital's Gulshan area where he had been hiding, according to police.

Family members alleged that he died due to custodial torture, and demanded that "policemen responsible for the killing" be brought to justice.
