Rapist gets life in Joypurhat

A Joypurhat court yesterday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping a woman in Panchbibi upazila of the district in 2007.

The lifer is Mir Shahid Ali, son of late Chan Mia of Ratanpur village in the upazila.

Judge KM Julfikar Ali of the Court of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal -1 also fined the convict Tk 10,000. In default, he is to suffer another one year in jail.

According to the prosecution, the rape victim filed a case with Panchbibi Police Station, accusing Shahid. After investigation, police pressed charges against Shahid.
