What to read

What we’re reading this week

Daaknam Bhule Gechi
Obayed Haque
Upakatha Prokashon, 2026

Published during the 2026 Ekushey Book Fair, Daaknam Bhule Gechi follows a city-bred teenager whose life changes when he moves with his family to a deserted palace in his father’s village. The palace has been empty for decades and seems to carry layers of silence, mystery, and forgotten history within its walls. As the story progresses, we may begin to notice subtle hints of magical realism appearing in between the events, though it is still unfolding how strongly this element will develop. We are curious to see whether the story fully moves in that direction or takes a different path later on. What stands out most so far is the writer’s smooth storytelling and balanced detail, which makes the reading experience engaging and keeps us intrigued throughout.
