Koel Mallick has formally entered national politics, taking oath as a member of India’s Rajya Sabha from West Bengal.

The actor was sworn in on Monday, April 6, in Parliament, joining a batch of newly elected members from multiple states. Mallick was nominated by the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), marking her official debut in parliamentary politics.

Her induction follows her election to the Upper House in recent Rajya Sabha polls, where several candidates from different parties were elected unopposed.

Mallick was accompanied at the ceremony by family members, including her father, veteran actor Ranjit Mallick.

A prominent figure in Bengali cinema for over two decades, Mallick has maintained a largely controversy-free career. Alongside her commercial success, she is known for her restrained public presence and strong screen persona.

Her family has long-standing ties with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, a relationship that has often drawn public attention.

While she has not contested elections directly, her entry into the Rajya Sabha places her in the national political arena through party nomination.

In her personal life, Mallick is married to film producer Nispal Singh. The couple has two children.
