A day-long retrospective honouring actor-director Tauquir Ahmed will be held on April 19 at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, bringing together artists and cultural practitioners to revisit his work across film, theatre and television.

Titled “Chhoy Doshok Periye Tauquir Ahmed”, the programme—organised by Suhrid—frames the tribute as a reflection on the breadth of his creative journey, rather than a literal measure of career span.

Tauquir Ahmed is one of Bangladesh’s most recognised filmmaker-actors, with a body of work that includes “Joyjatra”, “Rupkothar Golpo”, “Daruchini Dwip”, “Oggatonama”, and “Fagun Haway”. His films have received critical acclaim at home and abroad, with “Oggatonama” selected as Bangladesh’s official submission to the Academy Awards.

The event will open with a seminar titled “Our Culture and the Responsibility of the Artiste”, featuring voices from across the cultural sector. Filmmaker Amitabh Reza Chowdhury has written on Tauquir Ahmed’s cinema, while playwright Masum Reza and writer Rummaan Rashid Khan have contributed reflections on his theatre and television work.

A screening of “Oggatonama” will follow at the academy’s main auditorium. In the evening, organisers have scheduled a stage production directed and performed by Tauquir Ahmed, titled “Tirthajatra”.

Actor Ahsan Habib Nasim said the initiative was taken collectively by peers to honour a multifaceted artistic legacy. “We want to revisit his diverse body of work,” he said. “Through this tribute, we hope other artistes will also feel inspired.”

Actor Bipasha Hayat shared the event poster on social media, writing: “May new ideas emerge through every presence, and may that light spread beyond boundaries.”

The programme will run from 9:00am to 9:00pm, with support from Actors Equity Bangladesh.
