Actor Tariquzzaman Tapan passes away at 60

Television and film actor Tariquzzaman Tapan passed away on Friday (April 24) at 8:05pm at his residence in Aftabnagar, Dhaka. He was 60. The news was confirmed by Rashed Mamun Apu, general secretary of the Actors’ Equity Bangladesh.

Tapan had been battling cancer for a long time. His condition had recently deteriorated, and he was admitted to the intensive care unit of a private hospital in the capital. According to Rashed Mamun, doctors later informed the family that no further treatment was possible. He was brought home on Friday afternoon, where his condition worsened before his passing later that night.

His funeral prayers are scheduled to be held at Parshinagar Jame Mosque in Aftabnagar, after which his body will be taken to his village home in Dhanbari, Tangail, for burial.

Once a familiar face on both television and film, Tapan was known for his effortless performances, particularly in comedic roles. His notable film credits include “Alta Banu”, “Thikana”, and “Ja Chhilo Andhokare”. On television, he appeared in dramas such as “Jora Shalik”, “Hatchhani”, “Alpe Golpe”, and “Mrittikar Jatra”.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son.
