The popular psychological thriller series “Asur” is gearing up for its third season, with the script reportedly locked and filming scheduled to begin in September.

Created by Gaurav Shukla, the series will see Arshad Warsi and Barun Sobti reprise their roles as Dhananjay Rajpoot and Nikhil Nair, respectively. According to a report by The Times of India, Shweta Basu Prasad has also joined the cast for the upcoming season, although details about her character are being kept under wraps.

The third season will also mark a significant change behind the camera. Shukla, who created and wrote “Asur”, is set to take over directing duties for the new instalment. The first two seasons were directed by Oni Sen. Shukla will reportedly also serve as a producer on Season 3.

Casting for the new season is still underway, with further additions expected to be announced as production approaches.

“Asur” debuted in 2020 and gained attention for blending crime and psychological thriller elements with themes drawn from Indian mythology. The story follows forensic expert Nikhil Nair and CBI officer Dhananjay Rajpoot as they investigate a series of killings linked to a perpetrator whose crimes are shaped by his interpretation of mythology and morality.

The second season arrived in 2023, continuing the confrontation between the investigators and the show’s central antagonist.

While filming for “Asur” Season 3 is expected to begin in September, an official release date has yet to be announced.
