‘Masud Rana’ set for Eid release

The long-delayed spy thriller “Masud Rana” is finally set to hit theatres this Eid-ul-Azha, with its trailer scheduled for release later this week.

The film, based on the iconic character created by Kazi Anwar Hossain, was first announced in 2020 by Jaaz Multimedia as part of a two-film project. While “MR-9: Do or Die”, directed by Asif Akbar, was released in 2023, the second film—directed by Saikat Nasir—remained stalled until now.

Producer Abdul Aziz confirmed that “Masud Rana” will release during Eid, with its official promotional campaign beginning Thursday through the trailer launch.

“This film is adapted from Kazi Anwar Hossain’s celebrated spy series, and he personally approved the screenplay before his passing,” Aziz said. “We spared no effort in bringing the story to life. It is one of Jaaz’s most expensive productions, and we are very optimistic about it.”

Most of the film’s shooting was completed nearly five years ago, with only a song and a few scenes remaining. Director Saikat Nasir had previously expressed frustration over the delays. The remaining shoot has now resumed, with just one day of filming left—pending approval from the Bangladesh Army.

“All other work, including editing and dubbing, has been completed. The film will be fully ready within this month,” Aziz added.

The producer also confirmed that the film will be released nationwide, including multiplexes, during Eid-ul-Azha.

In the film, Russell Rana stars as Masud Rana, alongside Puja Cherry as Sohana, a role that features significant action sequences. Syeda Tithi Amni also appears in a key role.
