The criticism proved the character worked: Sushama Sarkar
Actor Sushama Sarkar, known for her work across theatre, television, film, and OTT platforms, has recently received strong audience response for her performances in television dramas.
Speaking to The Daily Star, the actor said she has been widely appreciated for her role in the family drama “Porompara”, currently airing on Deepto TV. Directed by Ashish Roy, the drama explores the lives of three generations, with Sarkar playing a key role alongside veteran actor Dolly Zahur.
“I’m receiving a lot of appreciation for ‘Porompara’. It feels fulfilling when audiences watch and respond positively to a project,” she said, adding that she is portraying a positive character in the series.

She also spoke about working with Dolly Zahur. “It’s a great opportunity to work with such a renowned and talented artiste. I am learning a lot from her,” she said.
Sarkar recently appeared in the long-running drama “Dena Paona”, which concluded its broadcast after gaining significant popularity among viewers. She played a negative character in the series.
“Many viewers criticised and even scolded me for portraying a negative role. Some couldn’t accept it. Even now, when I go out, people refer to me as that character. That makes me feel I was able to portray the role convincingly,” she said.
She noted that audiences have expressed disappointment over the drama ending and are demanding a second season. “Viewers are reacting strongly to the show ending and are asking for ‘Dena Paona’ season two. I also hope it returns,” she added.

On the growing trend of family-oriented dramas, Sarkar said, “Audiences are now more interested in family-based stories. ‘Dena Paona’ has played a major role in bringing that trend back, as such dramas were not as prominent before.”
She added that a special seven-episode Eid segment of “Dena Paona” was produced due to audience demand and was well received.
Currently, Sarkar is appearing in the serial “Bishwas Bonam Sardar”, airing on Maasranga TV. She is also set to begin shooting for a new serial titled “Er-i Naam Songsar”, directed by Hasan Rezaul.
Commenting on Eid releases, she said she has watched “Pressure Cooker” and “Bonolota Express”. “I enjoyed both films. Ultimately, audiences will watch films if they have strong stories,” she said.
