Bangladeshi actor Zayed Khan narrowly escaped a major accident after suffering burn injuries during a stage performance in the US state of Oklahoma.

The actor, who has been living in New York for an extended period while regularly attending Bengali community events across different American states, was injured while performing at a cultural programme organised by the local Bangladeshi community.

According to Zayed Khan, the incident occurred when he entered the stage riding a motorcycle as part of the performance. Fire wax containers placed at the front and back of the motorcycle suddenly scattered flames onto his body.

Despite catching fire, the actor reportedly continued performing after the flames were quickly extinguished. He later received medical treatment following the programme.

Speaking over WhatsApp from Oklahoma yesterday (May 12), Zayed Khan said, “I survived by a very small margin. My body caught fire, and I still continued performing. That made the situation a bit worse. I have received treatment and am now resting with bandages.”

Describing the incident further, he said, “There were fire wax flames burning at both the front and back of the motorcycle during my entrance. As soon as I entered the stage area, the flames suddenly spread onto my body. The people on duty rescued me very quickly. Otherwise, I could have been burned alive. Everything around me could have caught fire as well.”

The actor said the injuries were not severe, though several parts of his body were burned.

Zayed Khan has been staying in the United States for quite some time and regularly performs at events organised by the Bengali diaspora community. However, he said he is still uncertain about when he will return to Bangladesh.

The actor is widely known for films including “Ontorjala”.
