Britney Spears was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) on Wednesday night in Ventura County, California.
The California Highway Patrol detained the pop star around 9:30 pm, and she was booked early Thursday morning at approximately 3 am, according to an arrest record. Spears was later released and is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.
In a statement, a representative for Spears described the incident as “unfortunate” and said the singer plans to comply with the law. The statement added that her family is working on a plan to support her wellbeing during this difficult time.

Spears recently sold her song catalogue and other rights to Primary Wave. Spears last released an album in 2016 with “Glory” and last performed live in the United States in 2018 during the final show of her “Piece of Me Tour” in Austin, Texas.
