Renowned rock band Warfaze has been nominated for the Ekushey Padak, the country’s second-highest civilian honour, marking a historic first for Bangladeshi band music.

The band confirmed the news through a post on its official Facebook page yesterday (February 5), sharing that the announcement reached them moments before a major live performance.

“Four minutes before we got on stage at Mirpur Stadium for the Odommo Bangladesh T20 Cup 2026 opening ceremony, we learned that Warfaze had been awarded the nation’s second-highest honour, the Ekushey Padak,” the post read.

According to the band, the timing left the members emotionally overwhelmed, as they processed the significance of the recognition just before stepping on stage.

“Warfaze is eternally grateful to everyone who has supported the band in any direct or indirect way, including all former members, as well as our families and friends,” the post continued. “This achievement would not have been possible without their love and support. This is not just a milestone for us, but for the entire Bangladeshi band music community. We are proud to represent all of you through this historic recognition.”

Formed on June 5, 1984, Warfaze has completed four decades of its musical journey. Monirul Alam Tipu, the band’s founding member, has remained associated with Warfaze since its inception, guiding it through multiple phases and line-up changes. The band released its self-titled debut album, “Warfaze”, in 1991.

In 2024, Warfaze marked 40 years of music with a Legacy Concert Tour, performing both at home and abroad from August. While the “Forty Years Legacy Concert Tour” was scheduled to continue across different parts of the country, it has been temporarily postponed due to the prevailing situation.

The band is currently working on a new album titled “Pothchola 2”, which revisits their classic songs with a contemporary sonic approach. Two tracks from the album, “Ondho Jibon” and “Obak Bhalobasha”, were released last year.
Over the years, Warfaze has built a catalogue of enduring songs, including “Bose Achi”, “Nei Proyojon”, “Osamajik”, “Obak Bhalobasha”, “Jononi”, “Joto Dure”, “Bewarish”, “Moharaj”, “Tomake”, “Purnota”, “Sotto” and “Rupkotha”. To date, the band has released eight studio albums.
