‘Harry Potter’ trailer becomes HBO’s most-watched with 277 million views
The first trailer for “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”, a new television adaptation of Harry Potter, has broken records. The trailer crossed 277 million organic views within 48 hours of release, making it the most-watched trailer in the history of HBO and HBO Max.
The series is based on the first novel by JK Rowling. Each season is expected to follow one book from the seven-part series. The first season will adapt “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”.
In the trailer, Harry speaks about his parents. Hagrid, played by Nick Frost, tells him they were kind and brave. The clip shows Harry meeting his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. It also shows scenes from Hogwarts, including the sorting ceremony, classes, and Quidditch.
The cast includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore and Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall. Paapa Essiedu plays Severus Snape. Other cast members include Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom and Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy.
The original film version of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” starred Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter.
The series is developed by Francesca Gardiner, known for “Succession”. Several episodes are directed by Mark Mylod, known for “Game of Thrones”.
“Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” is set to premiere during Christmas 2026 on HBO. It will also stream on HBO Max.
