‘Ma’ is a small word, but means the world: Dilara Zaman
Ekushey Padak awardee Dilara Zaman is a legend in the industry, having asserted dominance for over five decades now.
Marking the occasion of World Mother's Day, the veteran actress shared her memories of embracing motherhood on screen with The Daily Star.
Today is World Mother's Day. How do you see this day?
Every day is Mother's Day for me. Mother's Day is not in our Bengali culture, it is a foreign one.
I deeply love and respect my mother. 'Ma' is a small word, but means the world. I am a mother myself, and the only thing I expect is love and respect for all my affection.
You have played the role of a mother in numerous plays.
This is a big achievement for me as an artist. A lot of artists call me mom, even outside shots. Even the boy who serves me tea addresses me as 'ma'. I've been playing the role of a mother on the screen for many years. Such characters give me happiness and peace.
The role of a mother attracts me the most.
Do you have any regrets?
No. I am happy and satisfied with what I have got. I have received so much love from my fans in this profession, that I still try to be at my best.
I have a lot of students, and they all love me dearly. What more could I ask for?
Do you plan on retiring anytime soon?
My passion lies in acting, and the film fraternity is like family to me. Their presence keeps me well, and that is why even at this age, I am marching on.
I want to keep living with my passion till the sun sets on me.
