EDITOR’S NOTE

"We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect." — Anaïs Nin

That being said, readers have one up on writers. Every time we read a book, our experience of it changes, depending on our maturity, stage of life, circumstances, etc. But we all have significant books or writers we keep returning to. Perhaps they inspire us to take the next step. Or they comfort us when reality doesn't. Or they helped shape us in some manner.

In celebration of International Women's Day, SLR asks your favourite authors near and far who their inspirational women writers or poets are. Of course, no one reads something specifically because it is written by a woman. But even the literary world could do with some highlighting of an under-represented gender. If a name sounds unfamiliar, be sure to source her book! Reading satisfaction guaranteed.
