LOOKING for THE LEAP

LOOKING for THE LEAP

Rafi Hossain

In the last one and a half years of Star Showbiz, there is one thing that has always worried me: the niddle-noodle state of Bangladesh's film sector. At points it seems that there are signs of the sector being revived, but soon enough, I talk to those working in the sector specially those who are intricately involved, and realize that the scenario has really not changed. To add to that, what really worries me even more now is the meteoric fall of Bangladeshi viewership of Bangladeshi television programmes. I also worry that people who still have the ability and authority to turn things around before we lose all the viewers to Indian programmes, are not comprehending the true gravity of the situation. Out of this plight, I am trying to build up a platform voiced through Star Showbiz that shall involve major players of the sector, including television channel owners, managers, producers, directors and actors so that we can work together to turning the scenario around. On a positive note, recent times in the Showbiz world of Bangladesh have seen many models make the leap to acting, and some television stars leap to movies. Rukshana Ali Heera is primarily a model, and is one of the most well-known faces of Bangladesh in ramp modeling. She is very commonly seen on billboards and in television commercials, brandishing the newest fashion products. Confident, gorgeous and smart, she is also an actor on television. Despite having all these things working for her, she has an uphill battle given how competitive the field of acting is. She has a unique voice – she needs to plan out a strategy about using her unique features to her advantage and create a space for her in the filmmaking world since that is her ultimate destination. The other and most important thing that Heera needs to master is the art of acting. There is no room for any lacking in this respect. If she wants to make a space in this very competitive world, she has to concentrate on developing her skills and dimensions as an actor. A few years back, she thought she wouldn't be the right fit for movies, but she has experienced a change of heart and now, her goal is to be featured in full length films. Her attitude towards work and her background as a model are assets she needs to build on. We wish her the best of luck in making the leap!
