Magistrates' response
I thank Mr. Mohammad Badrul Ahsan for his thought-provoking article “Mutiny of the magistrates” on 26-10-07. He has analyzed the possible reasons behind the resentment among the magistrates against the government decision to separate the judiciary from the administration.
At the same time, he has expressed his deep anguish over the matter. Here he mentions a shocking reality that our magistrates were put to test for the first time and they miserably failed. It means they have failed to uphold the interest of the country getting above their own self-interest.
The matter is very serious and, above all, very regrettable for the nation.
This event has shown that our administration cares little for our national interest as they are more anxious about their self-interest than our collective welfare. This is not expected.
Mr. Ahsan has raised some important points here. I agree with him. He says that the agitating magistrates are not ordinary people like us. They are highly talented. They have become BCS officers after crossing many hurdles like a number of competitive examinations which are really difficult to pass. So they are the best of the best. The nation chooses such talents to shoulder the responsibility of ruling the country well, upholding the national welfare above their self -interest.
In spite of our limited resources, we are affording all the possible facilities to them so that they can lead the country to the path of progress and development.
As conscious citizens of the country we are really upset over the matter. The event has opened our eyes. We realise that the people, who are supposed to work for the development of the country, can go to any extent to fulfill their own needs. It is very shocking.
Last of all, I thank Mr. Ahsan for writing such a timely article.
