Himu Murder
Family demands arrest of all accused
Eight months have passed since the brutal murder of college student Himadri Majumder Himu and yet police could not arrest all of the accused in this case, thus delaying the murder trial, alleged the victim's family, relatives and friends.
They formed a human chain in front of Chittagong Press Club yesterday demanding immediate arrest and trial of the absconding accused in the Himu murder case.
Members of Shikar, the anti-drug organisation where Himu worked as a volunteer, joined the human chain.
Of the five accused in the case, which was filed with Panchlaish Police Station on May 24 last year, Mahboob Ali Khan Danny and Zahedul Islam Shaon remained absconding.
Himu's father Probir Kanti Majumder said, of the accused, police could arrest only one, Shahadat Hossain Shaju, who is now out on a six-month bail.
Meanwhile, Shah Selim Tipu and his son Junaid Ahmed Riad, the two main accused in the case, had surrendered before a local court and were sent to jail.
Himu's father alleged that police have been inactive and insincere in trying to catch Danny and Shaon though arrest warrants have been issued from court against the duo after submission of the case charge sheet three months ago.
Pradip Kumar Das, officer in charge (OC) of Panchlaish Police Station, said they are yet to find Danny and Shaon.
Himu died on May 23 last year after the accused assaulted him, unleashed three dogs on him and then pushed him down from a building, “Farhad Mansionâ€, in Panchlaish R/A of Chittagong.
