Last tributes to Nirmal Sen at Shaheed Minar today
The body of veteran journalist, leftist politician and revolutionary leader, Nirmal Sen, who died Tuesday, will be kept at Central Shaheed Minar in the capital from 11:00am to 1:00pm today for people to pay their last tributes.
Before that, his body will be taken to the office of Gonotantrik Biplobi Party at 9:00pm and thence to Jatiya Press Club at 10:00am, reports private television channel ATN Bangla.
Family members said in accordance with his last wish, Nirmal's body will be donated to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for research work, the report adds.
Meanwhile, different socio-political organisations registered deep sorrow at Nirmal's death and said it is a permanent loss for the country.
In separate condolence notes, Gono Oikya, Jatiya Mukti Council, Revolutionary Worker's Party of Bangladesh, Biplobi Chhatra Shonghoti, Gono Forum, Ain o Salish Kendra, Gonotantrik Bam Morcha, Jatiya Press Club and Bangladesh Tariqat Federation, paid homage to Nirmal and offered condolence to his family.
Nirmal Sen breathed his last at the capital's LabAid Hospital due to old-age complications at the age of 82. He was a bachelor.
The journalist worked for Dainik Paigam and Dainik Pakistan in the pre-independence period and for the now defunct Dainik Bangla in independent Bangladesh.
He was also founder president of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ).
