Hearing on Fakhrul's writ petition Jan 27
The High Court (HC) has fixed January 27 for hearing a writ petition filed by BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir seeking the court's order on the government to not implicate him in any more cases "without the due process of law".
An HC bench deferred the hearing yesterday following a time prayer moved by Additional Attorney General MK Rahman for preparing against the petition.
Fakhrul, now in jail, filed the writ petition on Sunday saying that immediately after he got bail from the HC in two cases in connection with BNP-led 18-party alliance's December 9 road blockade, the government illegally showed him arrested in two other cases in similar connection.
He was implicated in two more similar cases on January 16.
He was not shown as accused when these cases were filed with different police stations in Dhaka on December 9.
With these, the number of cases filed against Fakhrul rose to 22 in less than nine months.
