Students of University of Information Technology and Science (UITS) vandalised a campus building of the university in Rajshahi city demanding "genuine" certificates. Several hundred students staged demonstration and lay seize the campus in Sipaipara area around 9:00am. Around 1:00pm, they, however, withdrew the demonstration after an assurance of the university authorities of fulfilling their demands within seven days and the campus will remain close until then. The students alleged that the university authorities have opened three campuses in the city without obtaining approval from University Grant Commission and the government. Despite they are not authorised to provide certificates, the UITS authorities provided the students with the certificates from the outer campuses. Earlier on Wednesday, the university's officials beat up a student as he protested the providing of the unauthorised certificate from the campus, the agitators alleged. Acknowledging that they provided the students with the certificates from Rajshahi campuses, UITS Senior Administrative Officer Abu Hena M Shahed Reja said outer campuses of UITS Dhaka yet to get the approval for providing the certificates. Boalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ziaur Rahman said the UITS authorities could not show any evidence of their eligibility to operate the campuses in Rajshahi. “They took seven days for proving their authority,” he said.
