With April in place and a heated climate ahead, the menace of load shedding threatens to cripple life in Chittagong. The fluctuation in the supply is causing untold sufferings to people. With that has come the other danger, price hike of essential commodities, which adds to the peril people face. The power supply problem is so staggering that, if one keeps counting, it mounts to ten to twenty times in a mere twenty-four hours' time. You happen to notice, all of a sudden, that sleep has slipped away in all quietness of time from you in the dead of night. You keep wriggling and you suffer. It is naturally extremely frustrating seeing SSC examinees, children and elderly people falling prey to such power outages. We, as a developing nation with a rising population and yet potential for growth, should search for a pragmatic solution that meets the continuous and cumulative need of and demand for strong, uninterrupted power supply. The authorities concerned are urged to look into the matter at the earliest and take measures to provide relief to the suffering people. Prevention is better than cure. The old proverb is what the authorities should have before them.
