We are shocked

Ahmad Ferdous Bin Alam, Department of CSE, DU
In response to a freedom fighter's letter entitled "We are shocked" dated April 02, 2008, I, with due respect to him, would like to say a few words which might help assuage his outrage. He says that dubbing donation to funds named after Bangabandhu as corruption makes him outraged. Although the fund is meant for good purposes, many donors had purportedly donated in order to get favour leading to unfair favouritism, obviously a form of corruption. Moreover, was there any transparent account of all the activities of the Foundation? Was the financial affairs conducted democratically and with transparency? It seems that he's deeply sorry for the two Begums' captivity. I request him just to recall the grim memories of the 15 years of their regime. What their father and husband did for the cause of our country is appreciated and will be forever, by the people of Bangladesh. We owe them a lot. But this shouldn't overshadow what these two Begums did to the country. If the misdeeds weren't condoned by them for the greed of power, especially for the last 5 years before 1/11, Bangladesh would have been a much better country today. People of Bangladesh except the opportunists are exasperated with them and are eagerly waiting for their trial according to the law of the land. Nevertheless, I completely agree with him that broadcasting of the comic song having footage of arrest of two Begums should be stopped as the legal process is underway and they aren't convicted yet. Freedom fighters are the best sons of the soil. It's heartening when they raise their voice and come forward to guide the nation towards development.
