10th grader found dead at home in Dhaka’s Banasree
Police today recovered the body of a class 10 student from her house in Dhaka’s Banasree area.
Police suspect the incident was a killing.
The deceased was identified as Fatema Akhter Nila, 18, a student of Radiant School and College, who hailed from Habiganj, Khilgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shafiqul Islam said.
She lived with her family in Block L of South Banasree.
Talking to The Daily Star, Foyez Iqbal, additional deputy commissioner (Khilgaon Zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said police received information about the incident around 5:00pm, adding that the killing may have taken place one or two hours earlier.
At the time of the incident, the victim’s parents were not at home as they had gone to their village on January 7, while her elder sister had gone to the gym, he said.
He added that police suspect it was a killing as the victim’s mobile phone was missing and the door of the house was found open. There were also injury marks on her neck.
Police suspect she may have been strangled before her throat was slit.
Police are investigating the motive behind the killing, including whether any known person was involved. Statements from the victim’s family members and witnesses are also being collected, the police official said.
The body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy, Foyez Iqbal added.
