Another young life cut short
Arrest the killers immediately
Yet another young man has been killed by unknown persons, this time in Narayanganj. The spate of murders and secret killings in the country of late has taken very disquieting proportions. Regrettably, the mystery of the deaths has remained unresolved. We are deeply shocked, and we know that words cannot be enough to comfort the aggrieved family. For all one can tell, the boy was killed because someone had a gripe against his father.
The unfortunate person was a bright student whose father, it seems, stepped on many a sensitive toe because of the several public causes that he has helped to espouse and that too leading from the front, the latest of which was organising the Gonojagoron Mancha in Narayanganj.
Apart from the fact that these murders have spawned a sense of fright in the minds of the public, their confidence in the police is also bound to sap with the killers at large, and no one knows who their next targets might be. While it is handy to point the finger at any one party or group, the police will have to proceed without any predetermined notion as to the likely killers and avoid red herrings.
While the family members suspect Jamat-Shibir of the murder, they have not ruled out the possibility that there may be other groups with an axe to grind. Unfortunately, given the volatility of the situation in the country, there may be some who may exploit the situation to settle old scores.
Several murders in the city have gone unresolved although, reportedly, the identity of the killers is no secret to the general public. It is essential for the police to resolve the murder and apprehend the culprits as quickly as possible, for the sake of justice as well as for regaining public trust.
