Bangladeshi vessel capsized in Kolkata: No efforts to bring back 15 crew members till now
No efforts were taken to bring back the 15 sailors of the Bangladeshi ship MV Marine Trust-1, which sank a month ago in Kolkata, India.
They are now living at a Marine Club Hotel there. The sailors posted a video message on social media urging to bring them back.
In the video message, the sailors urged the president, prime minister's intervention to bring them back.
In a three-and-a-half-minute video message released on Thursday (April 28, 2022), Faheem Faisal, chief engineer of the ship MV Marine Trust-1, said the 15 sailors took the ship from Chittagong port to Kolkata to bring cargo containers on March 20.
They reached there on March 23 and the next day, the ship sank at Netaji Subas Chandra Dock (unloading site) in Kolkata while carrying goods. At this time, the sailors were able to get down quickly.
Later, the Kolkata Port Authority kept them at the Marine Club Hotel (C-Man Hostel). All documents, including their passports, were taken away by Indian police, the engineers claimed.
They have no money and all of their clothes and educational certificates sank with the ship, he said.
In a video message, the sailors called for release from the "captivity" and let them to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with their families.
The correspondent tried calling Capt Sahiqul Islam of Marine Trust Limited, the owing company of MV MarineTrust-1 ship, several times on his mobile phone for his comments. But he did not answer. Even text messages were also sent to him but he did not respond yet.
