A 25-year-old man who allegedly raped a class 4 student in Mohanganj upazila and fled the area was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and subsequently remanded by a Netrokona court today.

The accused Munna, a resident of a village in Suair union of Mohanganj upazila, was produced before the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court in Netrokona this afternoon, which ordered him to be remanded to prison after hearing the case, said Mohanganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Hafizul Islam Harun.

At around 5:15am today, a team from Rab-14 arrested Munna from the bus stand area in the district town. He was subsequently handed over to Mohanganj police, who produced him before the court.

According to the case statement and accounts from police and the victim's family, on the night of June 12, the child stepped outside to answer the call of nature. Munna, her neighbour, had been lying in wait. He covered her mouth, dragged her to a nearby abandoned place, and tied her before raping her. After the assault, he threatened her with a sharp knife, warning her not to speak of the incident. Frightened, the child initially told no one.

However, owing to continuous bleeding, she confided in her paternal aunt the following day who informed the girl's father.

When the victim's father and aunt approached Munna's father seeking justice, he allegedly flew into a rage and threatened the victim's family with severe consequences.

That same night, the girl's father filed a case against Munna at Mohanganj Police Station. Police accepted the case after a preliminary investigation found it to be credible. Munna fled the area and went into hiding following the filing of the case, before being arrested today through a joint operation by Rab and police.
