Leaders of the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (Cucsu) yesterday heckled a faculty member who is said to be aligned with the Awami League and handed him over to the proctor’s office.

The incident occurred around noon when Hasan Muhammad Roman, an assistant professor in Chittagong University’s law department, was supervising the ‘B’ unit admission test for the 2025-26 academic session at Gallery 1.

Roman had taken a stance against the quota reform movement in July 2024, according to multiple complaints received by the university administration. In response, the university formed an investigation committee, whose work is still ongoing.

“A teacher known as an associate of fascism was performing admission test duty unethically,” said Sohanur Rahman, an executive member of Cucsu.

After learning of Roman’s presence on campus, Cucsu leaders informed the dean’s office. When Roman learned of their move, he attempted to flee the venue. He was later handed over to the proctor’s office, according to Sohanur.

“There is no hiding the fact that he was a pro-AL faculty,” said CU Proctor Hossain Shaid Shohrowardhy.

No decision has been taken on Roman yet, said Shohorowardhy, also a professor in CU’s markeing department.
