A case has been filed with the Zajira Police Station against 53 people over the bomb explosion that killed two people while bombs were being made in Shariatpur.

Nurul Islam Bepari has been named as the prime accused, while 140–150 others have been listed as unidentified suspects. Nurul Islam Bepari is the third brother of local UP Chairman Kuddus Bepari. One of the deceased, Sohan Bepari, used to work under his instructions.

The case was filed early this morning by SI Abul Kalam Azad under the Explosives Act. Three people have been detained so far. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saleh Ahmed confirmed the matter to The Daily Star.

“A case under the Explosives Act was filed early Friday morning. Three people have been detained. Two have been sent to jail through the court, while the other is under arrest while receiving medical treatment,” he said.

The OC said the explosion occurred on Thursday while bombs were being made at a tin-shed house in Beparikandi of Bilashpur union. The body of Sohan Bepari, 32, was later found in a field about half a kilometre away.

Two others – Arman Nayan Molla, 25, and Md Nabi Hossain, 22 – were critically injured and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Md Nabi Hossain died there around 4:30pm. Nayan remains hospitalised.

Police said the incident is linked to a long-running rivalry between supporters of UP Chairman Kuddus Bepari and his rival Jalil Madbar over local dominance. Previous clashes in the area involved cocktail bomb explosions, leading to cases under the Explosives Act.

Shankar Kumar Ghosh of the Anti-Terrorism Unit’s Bomb Disposal Team said bomb-making materials, including gunpowder, broken glass, and splinters, were recovered from the scene and handed over to police.
