Soumya mistakenly left out of central contract list

Star Online Report

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had yesterday released the names of 16 players who are set to be under the new central contract of the board. Soumya Sarkar's name was absent from the BCB list and it raised eyebrows and today it was revealed that the BCB had mistakenly excluded the cricketer's name from the list.

BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin informed that while Soumya will be in white ball contract while talking to local media. "Soumya is returning to being contracted and we will keep him in our white ball contact list. Since we were forming separate contracts for white ball and red ball, there was much chaos and, in a bid, to exclude players from the list, we left Soumya's name out," Minhajul was quoted as saying by local media.

For the first time, BCB has enacted different contracts for red ball cricket. In the last year, Soumya had played in 25 off the 30 matches the Tigers have played in all three formats. Although Soumya's name was not in the central contract list previously, when participating in national team camps or international cricket, the cricketers are usually given salary for that time period just as the centrally contracted players are given.

Tamim Iqbal Khan, Liton Kumer Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Mithun, Taijul Islam and Mehedi Hasan Miraz have been included in both white ball and red ball category.

Mominul Haque, Nayeem Hasan, Abu Jayed Chowdhury Rahi and Ebadot Hossain Chowdhury have been included in red ball contract only while T20I skipper Mahmudullah Riyad along with Mohammad Saifuddin, Mustafizur Rahman, Afif Hossain Dhrubo and Mohammad Naim form the list of players who have only managed white ball contracts.
