Soumya named as Shakib’s replacement
Soumya Sarkar has been named in the squad for the second Test as ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan's replacement, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) informed.
Soumya played in the Tigers' 2019 tour of New Zealand, notching a career-best 149-run knock in the first Test at Wellington. He also played the lone Test against Afghanistan at home. He however did not play the lone Test against Zimbabwe last year. Soumya will join the squad's training on Wednesday.
Shakib was ruled out from the second Test after failing to recover from an injury sustained during the first of the two ICC World Test Championship matches against the West Indies in Chattogram.
The second Test gets underway at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on 11 February. West Indies lead the series 1-0 after winning the first Test by three wickets.
