‘There’s an opportunity if you tick all the boxes’

Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal was hopeful that his young fast bowlers might do well and said that tomorrow is an opportunity for his side but the Tigers must execute their plans.

"We have a solid fast bowling attack. We got a few young bowlers which I am very excited to see and how they perform. Hopefully we will have a good chance," Tamim said in a press briefing today.

Asked if it was his team's best chance of getting a win in New Zealand, having failed in 26 attempts across formats, Tamim reiterated that there is always an opportunity when they play.

"There's always an opportunity every time you play against any side. You just have to execute things well, whatever you've planned and tick all the boxes. If you do so, you have an opportunity to win," he said.

Tom Latham, standing-in for regular skipper Kane Williamson, will be playing his 100th ODI when his side take on Bangladesh in the first ODI at Dunedin tomorrow. Tamim congratulated his opposite number: "I think it's a great achievement and I should congratulate him for the 100th game he is playing tomorrow. We have played a few games together. I wish him all the best but not too much (laughs)."

Latham had captained against the Tigers before but in that game, Bangladesh assailed the Kiwis by 5 wickets to bag their first win against New Zealand away from home. Latham remembered that game and said: "Yeah they did [beat us that game]. It was in Ireland at Contarf [Cricket Club Ground]. We've played a lot with each other, especially here. We know they are a side that fight right till the end and I am sure this will be no different. They had a good preparation in Queenstown and heard they enjoyed it."
