Batting woes deepen as Bangladesh A crumble to 413-run defeat against South Africa A

Bangladesh A’s batting woes continued as they slumped to a massive innings-and-413-run defeat against South Africa A in the opening four-day match at LC de Villiers Oval in Pretoria on Tuesday.

South Africa A resumed the day on 622-5 and declared at 647-6, with Sinethemba Qeshile registering an unbeaten double-century, scoring 200 off 263 balls. Captain Marques Ackerman was even more prolific, top-scoring with a 237-ball 256.

Pacer Anamul Haque was Bangladesh’s most successful bowler, finishing with 3-98, while Al Fahad and Nayeem Hasan took a wicket apiece.

With a daunting first-innings deficit of 525 runs to overcome, Bangladesh needed a determined response. Instead, their batting collapsed once again as they were bundled out for just 112 in 32.2 overs, handing South Africa A victory inside three days.

Mohammad Naim offered the most resistance with 30, while Anamul was left unbeaten on 19. Codi Yusuf, Tshepo Moreki and Delano Potgieter shared the damage, taking three wickets each.

The defeat had effectively been set up on the opening day when Bangladesh, sent in to bat, were dismissed for just 122 in 44.3 overs. South Africa A then capitalised ruthlessly, piling on a mammoth total to take complete control of the contest.

Bangladesh had several established players with national team pedigree in their lineup, including Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Naim, Shahadat Hossain Dipu, Zakir Hasan, Mahidul Islam Ankon and Afif Hossain. Yet none managed to make a meaningful contribution with the bat across either innings.

The second and final four-day match will begin on August 30 at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom.
